Where Are You Now

Ashford GAA Club under the directorship of Vice Chairperson Pat Doyle is undertaking to design a plan of action with targets for implementation over the next five years. At the last meeting it was proposed that we examine the possibility of locating past and present players who have left the club for one reason or another. At training this week Philip Doyle mentioned the big age gap between the young players playing and his age. Philip is on the Intermediate Football Panel and is getting better with age. Philip was wondering where this generation of player has gone.

I would like to hear from you if you are in this age gap, if you are still living in the parish, if you now live outside the parish, if you have immigrated, please send me an email on your whereabouts, how you are surviving to-day and what of the future. County Football League Div 4 North

Ashford maintained their 100% record in this division with a comprehensive 0-14 to 1-6 victory over Kilmac in Kilmacanogue. Ashford led 0-5 to 1-1 at half time, were level 0-8 to 1-5 after 15 minutes of the second half. However Ashford outscored the opposition by 0-6 to 0-1 in the final quarter. Dean Doyle stole the show with six very good points. Adrian Marah and Greg Mooney scored 0-2 each and there were single points from Gary Maguire, Paddy Shannon, Brian O’Donnell, the point of the match came from Mick Taylor who ran from his own defence to score a brilliant point. The Dowling brothers Conor and David played very well, Dave Corkish, Mick Taylor and Iarla O’Donnell worked hard in defence. Paddy Shannon and Greg Mooney controlled midfield while all the forwards played well.

Ashford Team: Paul Conyard, Brian Shannon, Dave Corkish, Iarla O’Donnell, James Coffey, Mick Taylor, David Dowling, Paddy Shannon, Greg Mooney, Brian O’Donnell, Conor Dowling, Dean Doyle, Gary Maguire, Adrian Marah, Cian Taylor. Sub, Matthew Buckley.

Footnote: Once again only one umpire was available for this match. Kilmac lost a legitimate point due to no umpires been available. Each week at every game there is a controversial incident due to a lack of match officials. Surely players from both sides and at all age groups deserve better.
